The Sandy Challenge
by Juliette Schaum

Maka was very good at hunting and she was going to get food for her family, but there was nothing there. I thought it was nothing so I went home. I got home and I looked at my father and he looked sick! “Father, are you sick?” “Yes I am as soon as you left I felt sick, did you get food?” “No, there were no animals.” “Can you go get some berries instead of meat?”

I hopped out of my house and looked for berries and I could not find any of them! I also did not find any animals, I thought that was really weird so I went to my friend Nova’s house. Hi Maka! Hi Nova I need to tell you something. What Maka is there something wrong, is it the sand storm?

Wait there is going to be a sand storm! Yes, your parents did not tell you. No! Maka you need to get back home! But my dad needs stuff to feel better. I don’t care you could die! You don’t care about my dad? Not right now. Maka felt like she was going to burst out in tears, she thought that Nova was her worst friend ever so she left. Maka was bursting out in tears, she was so mad at Nova. Suddenly sand was everywhere, it was in her mouth, hair, close and was running for her life because there was a huge wave of sand! It was getting faster and faster! And suddenly she was in a pile of sand and after she was out she was in the animal’s area. That was where they were all the time. She did not hear anything. And then Maka noticed that there was no food or water! She rushed back home and told her family that there was no more food or water. Her family was not surprised that happened. And she told them about the sand storm, and they were not surprised again. And Maka felt relieved that she was home.

She was so happy and felt bad about Nova. So she went over to her house and Nova answered the door but looked sorry. “Maka I am very sorry that I said that I did not care about your dad, and I really do.” “It’s okay Nova I should have listened to you first.” “Maka come here!” said her mother. “By Nova!” “By Maka!” I went back to my house and my mother said “Maka you should have not gone too far!” Said her mother. “Well at least I am back home.” “Yeah I know, you could have got lost.” “I know” And then Maka sat on the couch with her family. She felt calm and settled and was exhausted from running.

Hope Never Dies

Written by Norah French

As we know it, life will never be easy. But one can always wish. Sitting at the edge of my bed, thoughts never bring up ways to stop. But one thought recently came to mind. Hope. Never. Dies.

Hope Never Dies shows how just one person can make an impression on how people see our world. Not just our city or state. Not just our country or our continent. But our world. Hope Never Dies is a program where anyone can donate food, clothing, water, money, and more so that anyone who needs anything can have it and keep their hopes and dreams alive.

Hope Never Dies isn’t just about donating. It’s a place for connection. Hope Never Dies has an LGBTQIA+ club that anyone can join for any reason. This club is made for everything. Learning, helping, volunteering, or just plain out being out of the house. In this place, there is also a Care Clinic.

The Care Clinic is a clinic where anyone and everyone can get free medical attention, medicines from the pharmacy, a good paying job, and free attention for anyone from newborns to seniors. Hope Never Dies tries to help everyone and anyone in any way that they can.

Hope Never Dies has the motto of that darkest times have light inside. When we as community come together, we can make something spectacular. Even though we don’t see all the possibilities at once, we show our stories differently. But like I said, even the darkest times have just the smallest bit of light inside.

We should never stop trying to make our city see all the possibilities of hope and faith that we can show. As our town grows and shrinks, we need to act to be the best version of our town that we can make it. Never stop being yourself. And never ever stop trying to be a changemaker.
